This has been just a normal week at the Brandhorst house.  On Monday we took Abigail to the doctors for her 6 month check up (oops!!1 month late).  She is healthy and doing great.  She has her two bottom front teeth and is weighing 8.265 Kilograms (that’s about 18 pounds).

The funniest thing about the doctors visit is when we began to talk about Abigail eating solid foods.  We told the doctor that we had started her on rice and oatmeal cereal and bananas and papayas. Our doctor told us that we could go ahead and start feeding her beans, not green beans but black beans and pinto style beans.  She also told us to start feeding her egg yolks, not the whites (you add that at one year) and meat.  We have decided that we will continue on with the plan we used with the other four little Brandhorsts.  With Rebekah I made almost all her food from scratch.  So this is not a foreign consept for me.  It will just take a little bit more preparation time.  We will continue with the cereal and fruits then veggies and then meat  in about 2 months.  Here the concept is: the baby is on solid foods now….all solid foods.  In order to make babies injoy their foods, all baby foods contain sugar.  It is amazing that one cannot find a baby food without sugar as the second ingredient.

One other funny thing about the beans is that I gave up eating beans when Abigail was just a few weeks old, because it gave her terrible gas.  There has been one or two times when we have been at someone elses house and I had no choice but to eat beans, and  Abigail had gas and cried.  So I don’t think I will be giving her beans in the near future.
